The Lighthouse is a major part of the solution to North Lincolnshire’s need for housing. In particular there is need for short – medium term housing for people who are homeless; whether rough-sleeping or “sofa-surfing”. Many of these people also have needs in other aspects of life which may have contributed to their current position.
The purpose of The Lighthouse is to provide a home and hope to those in need of both.
The Lighthouse creates an atmosphere which will raise guests aspirations. The Life-Skill centre provides training and coaching in many areas ranging from debt advice and financial literacy to IT training, marriage skills and tenancy preparation.
Situated on Frodingham Road in the heart of Crosby, Scunthorpe, The Lighthouse is an attractive thirteen bedroom Supported Housing Project with an adjacent Life-Skills centre and an attached Tenancy Preparation facility.
The Lighthouse is an initiative of newLife.
The Lighthouse has its very own Lifeskills Centre. Situated adjacent to the hostel it is dedicated to helping local people and local agencies.
The Centre provides a wide range of services that include: UK Online Computer Training, Internet Access, CV Writing and Job Searching Support, Benefits Advice and the Opening Doors Tenancy Training Course amongst many others.
The Centre is open from Monday to Thursday, 9:30 – 16:00.
To reserve the Upstairs Training Room, either of the two informal Counselling Rooms or to enquire about any other service contact Alison on +44 (0)1724 848942.
Opening Doors is an 8 week (16 hours) programme designed to help people acquire and manage their tenancy. Led by a qualified Occupational Therapist aided by other professionals and experienced helpers, the course equips clients in the basic skills needed to successfully maintain a tenancy.
The weekly topics range from Moneyskills & Budgeting to Cooking & Fire Safety.
Certificates are awarded at a graduation ceremony attended by members of tutors, clients & family plus representatives of other supporting agencies.
The Opening Doors course runs in Scunthorpe and Barton upon Humber.

The number of staff at The Lighthouse has more than doubled during January. We are pleased to welcome the staff team from our mother-ship at newLife as they work from the Lifeskill Centre. The imminant launch of newLife’s latest project GIFTED (http://www.youareagift.org)has meant that we are saving every penny we can and the consolidation of our workplaces seemed sensible during the cold month of January. Do check out GIFTED and see how newLife are helping local women.
Looking forward to what 2013 will bring! Many great things to come, make sure you keep up to date! God Bless.
